Rocky Mountain Fire Alarm Association with SFPE Rocky Mountain Chapter Presentation Announcement

Topic: Hazardous Occupancies - You're Going to Do What!?

Description:

By their very nature, hazardous occupancies are dangerous and warrant additional scrutiny from a fire/life safety engineering, design, and enforcement perspective.  This presentation will discuss the methodologies for which to determine if an occupancy is to be considered hazardous in conjunction with reviewing maximum allowable quantities as defined by the IBC and IFC.  In addition, the role of a hazardous material inventory statement (HMIS) and the use of building control areas will be outlined.  The presentation will focus on the implementation of ancillary suppression and detection systems often utilized by H-occupancies, while also discussing common sense approaches and sequence of operations to best protect common H-occupancies applications.

Presented By: Wayne Griswold, PE, CFPS.

Wayne Griswold, PE, CFPS is a principal at TERPconsulting, overseeing the firm's Colorado operations.  With more than 16 years of experience in fire protection engineering, he specializes in commissioning and testing complex fire and life safety systems, code consulting, hazardous materials, and litigation support.  Throughout his career, Wayne has also served as an Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in multiple capacities, further strengthening his expertise in fire protection regulations and enforcement.

Wayne is a licensed fire protection engineer (PE) in Colorado, Wisconsin, and New Mexico and holds the Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) designation from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).  Actively engaged in industry leadership, he serves as secretary of the SFPE Rocky Mountain Chapter (2024-25), sits on the Regional Fire Code Board of Appeals for South Metro Fire Rescue Authority (SMFRA), and serves on three NFPA Standards Committees (NFPA 3, 4, and 915).
